Champions East Bengal kick off CFL campaign with 4-1 win over Rainbow AC!

Calcutta Football League champions East Bengal Club got their campaign off to the best possible start with a 4-1 opening day win over promoted Rainbow AC at the East Bengal ground on Saturday afternoon.

New Kerala striker V.P. Suhair was the hero of the day with a hattrick to his name.

The new area under I-League winning coach Khalid Jamil started well after doubts had cropped as Rainbow AC had held East Bengal to a draw in a friendly earlier in the week.

But today was another day with the red and gold getting their campaign off to a near perfect start. After his team missed a few early chances, Suhair off a Mohammed Rafique pass gave East Bengal an 18th minute lead which he doubled two minutes before the breather off a rebound.

Suhair completed his hattrick just seconds into the second half to somewhat secure the win with another newcomer in Mizo winger Brandon Vanlalremdika making it 4-0 in the 72nd minute.

Rainbow AC on their top tier debut only were able to reduce the deficit when Chattu Mandal scored in the 77th minute.

East Bengal had more chances to score, but at the final whistle the result remained 4-1, a good start for Khalid Jamil and his boys in the CFL.
