In a surprising move tonight, LaLiga giants FC Barcelona have announced that Argentinian club legend Lionel Messi will not be staying at the Catalan club despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, but this cannot happen because of Spanish LaLiga regulations on player registration.
As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.
The club in a statement wrote, “FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”
Which European club giant can afford Lionel Messi? Who wants to sign him? The most likely names are Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City besides North America’s Major League Soccer being a potential option if Messi is open to leaving Europe.
Now it will be interesting to see, where Lionel Messi ends up.
