Seventeen coaches from the Solomon Islands took the first step towards earning their OFC Senior C Licence qualification last month, taking part in a five-day coaching course in Honiara.
The course involved theoretical and practical sessions delivered by the Solomon Islands Football Federation technical department, led by Technical Director Moses Toata.
To qualify for the OFC Senior C Licence all participants must have obtained a Member Association Senior Licence and be coaching a youth U-19 or senior team at community level.
Toata said the event was an opportunity for the coaches to learn and apply their new skills in different coaching situations.
“Leadership was an important quality we wanted to see from the attendees and we did. Coaches need to be able to lead and show the qualities of a football role model,” he said.
“I also wanted them to understand different coaching methods which they applied throughout their time on the course.”
The coaches will now spend at least a year applying their new skills in their own environments before being assessed again by OFC assessors.
