Dates of 8th AFC Medical Conference Malaysia 2025 confirmed!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Committee further underlined the Confederation’s commitment to safeguard and prioritise the health and wellbeing of Asian footballers at its first meeting for the 2023 to 2027 term, which was held today at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Under the guidance of Chairperson Dato’ Dr. Gurcharan Singh, the Committee confirmed that the upcoming edition of the highly acclaimed AFC Medical Conference, which is set to take place in Malaysia in 2025, will be held from July 21 to 25.

The 8th AFC Medical Conference Malaysia 2025 will look to build on the strong momentum garnered from the Qatar edition held earlier this year which enabled more than 600 delegates obtain a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in sports science and medicine.

Membership to the various AFC Advisory Expert Groups was approved together with the specific guidelines and terms of reference to ensure the respective panels continue to serve the aims and objectives of the AFC as well as football development in particular. The Medical Committee approved research projects both in mental health and gender eligibility in football that are significant towards football competitions and has drawn much media attention.

The AFC will be the first Confederation to conduct the FIFA Advanced Emergency Football Medicine Course from October 24-25, 2023, thus ensuring a high standard of care for players during competitions. Various educational courses (2023-24) were approved, further reinforcing the AFCs commitment to protect and enhance the health and performance of players in Asia.

The Committee also noted that Dried Blood Spot (DBS) testing will be conducted for the first time at the AFC’s flagship competition – the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™. Both blood and urine tests shall be conducted both in and out-of-competition during the upcoming edition of Asia’s crown jewel, reiterating the AFC’s commitment to leave no stone unturned in keeping Asian football clean of doping.

All the decisions will need to be ratified by the AFC Executive Committee to take effect.
