Record 14 time and defending Federation Cup champions Mohun Bagan AC face DSK Shivajians FC in their opening Group B game at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Monday, May 8 evening.
After losing out on the I-League title, Mohun Bagan want to redeem themselves by once more lifting the Federation Cup which they had won last year with a 5-0 trashing of recently crowned I-League champions Aizawl FC in the final at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
Mohun Bagan have come with their best available squad after playing a second string side in the AFC Cup midweek in the Maldives. Only Pronay Halder amongst the regular starters is missing due to an injury, while goalkeeper Debjit Majumder is suspended due to a red card suffered against Chennai City FC in the last I-League encounter with coach Sanjoy Sen having the rest of the squad at his disposal.
Once again the Mariners will depend on the class of Haiti international Sony Norde to create chances and goals as they look to overcome a talented DSK Shivajians side in their opener, which could set to tone for their run in the tournament.
The match between the Mohun Bagan AC and DSK Shivajians FC kicks off at 7pm and will be telecast live on Ten 2.
