Delegates praise, applaud 7th AFC Medical Conference!

Delegates at the ongoing 7th Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Conference here are hailing the acclaimed three-day event for presenting eye-opening insights.

The Conference, themed “Football and Sports Medicine – Celebrating Diversity”, assembles close to 120 renowned specialists and more than 600 delegates to share and discuss the latest advances in sports medicine and science.

“This is an excellent concept, and the high quality of the presenters and content do really give you an insight into the world of sports medicine,” said Tarek Gherbal of Lebanon, the Head of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Doha’s Aman Hospital.

“Conferences like these help us stay up-to-date with the latest evidence-based guidelines on top of clinical decision-making, and ensure we remain well-informed to give the best to our athletes and patients,” he added.

Dr Sivaprasanth Sabarathinam found the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound-Guided Injection workshop a new experience that provided him valuable hands-on exposure.

“To learn from great doctors and talk to them enables us to take whatever I’ve gained here, use it on Indian athletes and improve our country’s up-and-coming sports medicine and science field,” said the sports physician at India’s Chettinad Hospital & Research Institute.

Egypt’s Morouj Nadzim, a senior physiotherapist with the national swimming team who also works with football players, found the developments and techniques presented at the Conference helpful as they would assist her athletes to come back stronger from injuries.

“It’s pretty amazing to see so many icons here, and their research will help us gain a lot of knowledge. I will apply whatever I’ve learned and share it with my junior colleagues.”

Muhammad Rahmani Jaffar, a sports physician at Malaysia’s Universiti Malaya Medical Centre found the Conference to be very comprehensive and one that covered all aspects of football and sports medicine to align with the ‘Celebrating Diversity’ theme.

“I’m here to gain more data on pain management and regenerative medicine, because footballers and athletes are looking for fast, safe recovery and proper rehabilitation on top of their doctor’s treatment,” he said.

“This is my fourth consecutive Conference, and because it’s held every four years, we actually see advances occurring in the field,” said Gagan Kapoor, a sports physiotherapist who worked with the Indian national football team until 2011 and now runs his own practice.

“I’ve taken down notes and will not only utilise them, but also disseminate this information to stakeholders such as coaches, medical personnel and athletes.”

The 7th AFC Medical Conference closes Monday.
