Dennis Grote returns back to VfL Bochum for dual function!

VfL Bochum 1848 have secured the services of Dennis Grote. The 37-year-old returns to Castroper Straße in a double role. On the one hand, Grote will take care of the scouting of the U21 to U16. At the same time, he will lace up his football boots himself and be on the pitch in the Oberliga Westfalen for the VfL Bochum U-21s.

“Dennis combines a high level of football expertise with his own professional experience and is therefore an absolute asset to the club as a scout for the transition area and as a leader in the U21s,” said Max Kögel, sporting director of the transition area at Talentwerk. “In the course of the restructuring of the Talentwerk, we need employees who are passionate about the cause and we have been able to experience that in every conversation with Dennis.”

As a teenager, Grote joined VfL’s U17s from Preußen Münster in 2002 and turned professional in 2005. The midfielder made a total of 91 appearances (eight goals, nine assists) for Bochum, 69 of them in the Bundesliga. Grote then remained in the Ruhr area, playing for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen, among others. Most recently, he was back under contract in Münster. With the Prussians, Grote first celebrated promotion to the 3rd division (3.Liga) in 2023 and says goodbye with the march through to Bundesliga 2.

Dennis Grote is taking up his new role full of enthusiasm: “I’m very happy to be part of the VfL family again and I’m grateful to those responsible for giving me the opportunity to help shape the new path I have chosen, both in my new role off the pitch and actively on the pitch.”
