Draw Delivers Prelims matchups and groups for 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup!

CONCACAF has today conducted the official draw for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The 17th edition of the Confederation’s flagship competition for men’s national teams will be played between June 16 – July 16 and will crown the best national team in the region. In total, 15 stadiums in 14 United States and Canadian cities will host matches.

The event at SoFi Stadium was co-hosted by TUDN sportscaster Valeria Marin, Fox Sports Lead Soccer Analyst and US Men’s National Team legend Alexi Lalas, and ESPN play-by-play commentator Fernando Palomo.

CONCACAF President and FIFA Vice President, Victor Montagliani, participated in the event alongside former national team stars Carlos Pavon (Honduras), Cobi Jones (USA), Jared Borgetti (Mexico), and Tashana Vincent (Jamaica), and the head coaches of the participating national teams.

2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Prelims

Play will commence the third week of June with the Prelims (June 16-20, 2023) and will include two direct elimination rounds. For Round One, the 12 participating teams have been divided into six pairings. After single match elimination play, the six-match winners will advance to Round Two.

The six Round One pairings are as follows:

Matchup 1: Trinidad and Tobago vs Guadeloupe
Matchup 2: Martinique vs Saint Lucia
Matchup 3: Curaçao vs Saint Kitts and Nevis
Matchup 4: French Guiana vs Sint Maarten
Matchup 5: Suriname vs Puerto Rico
Matchup 6: Guyana vs Grenada

After a single match elimination play, the six match winners will advance to Round Two. The pairings for Round Two have been pre-determined, and will be as follows:

Matchup 7: Winner Matchup 1 vs Winner Matchup 6
Matchup 8: Winner Matchup 2 vs Winner Matchup 5
Matchup 9: Winner Matchup 3 vs Winner Matchup 4

The three Round Two matchup winners will advance to the 2023 Gold Cup Group Stage.

2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Group Stage

Group Stage action will take place between June 24 – July 4 and will feature 16 nations divided into four groups of four.

The 12 CONCACAF national teams, which qualified directly through their performances in the CONCACAF Nations League group stage, the guest participant, AFC Asian Cup Champions Qatar, and the three Prelims winners have been divided into four groups and will play as follows:

Group A: USA, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Winner Prelims 9
Group B: Mexico, Haiti, Honduras and Qatar
Group C: Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador and Winner Prelims 8
Group D: Canada, Guatemala, Cuba and Winner Prelims 7

Following Group Stage play, the top two finishers in each of the groups (eight teams) will advance to a Knockout Stage. The Knockout Stage will be comprised of Quarterfinals, to be played on July 8 and 9, Semifinals on July 12, and Our Final at SoFi Stadium, on Sunday, July 16.

The knockout stage will be played as follows:

Quarterfinal #1: Winner Group D vs Second Place Group A
Quarterfinal #2: Winner Group A vs Second Place Group D
Quarterfinal #3: Winner Group C vs Second Place Group B
Quarterfinal #4: Winner Group B vs Second Place Group C

Semifinal #1: Winner Quarterfinal #1 vs Winner Quarterfinal #4
Semifinal #2: Winner Quarterfinal #2 vs Winner Quarterfinal #3

Final: Winner Semifinal #1 vs Winner Semifinal #2
