Eintracht Frankfurt sign Swedish teenager Hugo Larsson!

18-year-old midfielder Hugo Larsson will be moving from Swedish cup winners Malmö FF to Eintracht Frankfurt for the new season, and has signed a contract through to summer 2028.

Eintracht Frankfurt continue to work on their squad for next season with the signing of Hugo Larsson, one of the most promising players in his age category. The 18-year-old from Sweden, who can play in central or defensive midfield, will wear the number 16 jersey for the Bundesliga club.

Larsson made his first-team debut for Malmö in February of last year in the Swedish cup and played a role in the team’s eventual run to glory in that competition, including a 90-minute appearance in the final against Hammarby IF when he was just 17. A mere two months later, he made his top-flight bow in the Swedish Allsvenskan. That season, he established himself as a key player, playing 27 league games.

This year, he has gone from strength to strength in the Malmö midfield, starting all 10 league matches to date and notching up a goal and an assist in the process. Overall, he has made 59 competitive appearances for Malmö, 13 of them in European competition.

The teenager has also gained plenty of international experience in a Sweden jersey. Having made a total of 12 appearances across the youth ranks from U-17 to U-21 level, he made his senior debut last January when he featured in the starting line-up in a 2-0 friendly win over Finland.

“Hugo Larsson is a young and already established midfielder with enormous potential, and who will strengthen our squad,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “Despite his tender age, Hugo is already a regular starter for the current Swedish cup holders, which gives you an indication not only of his talent but also his character. We’ll build him up and help him to take his next steps. We’re convinced that he will provide us with lots of excitement in the future.”

“The discussions that we had with Hugo were full of mutual respect right from the very start,” added Timmo Hardung, who will be taking over as sporting director on 1 July. “Despite being so young, Hugo already creates a very mature impression and will be a perfect fit for our team, both on the pitch and in terms of his personality. We’re delighted that Hugo has decided to join Eintracht Frankfurt and we will give him all the time he needs to adapt to life in the Bundesliga.”
