Farukh Choudhary – Jamshedpur FC’s utility man!

Farukh Choudhary has emerged as one of Indian football’s shining stars in recent years, and his stock continues to rise at Jamshedpur FC owing to his versatility and comfort in several positions across the park.

Utility players are often considered a manager’s dream and Farukh can certainly put himself in the category of those individuals who are capable of excelling in every situation they have been put into.

The 26-year-old started his career in Pune before making his mark in the I-League second division with Lonestar Kashmir FC, catching the eye of top clubs and eventually making his Indian Super League debut with Kerala Blasters in 2016.

Despite only a limited appearances, his pedigree was very visible, and it was just a matter of time before regular playing time came calling in the form of a move to Jamshedpur FC.

Since his arrival at Jamshedpur in 2017, Farukh has blossomed into the kind of player Indian football needed. Pace, power, skill and a mentality to match. His return to the Men of Steel in 2021 after a season away has also steadily seen him mature into the player the club needs him to be.

Under Owen Coyle, Jamshedpur FC won the ISL Shield against all odds, and Farukh was a big part of the success, coming to the club’s aid when required and giving it his all.

With competition for places at an all-time high, playing every single game may not be currently possible, but whenever the midfield maestro has stepped onto the pitch, his performances have been solid if not spectacular.

This season hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far for Jamshedpur FC, with six defeats in a row stalling any growing hope that last season’s league shield-winning success could be replicated, but players like Farukh have taken a leading role in trying to steady the ship and get the club back on track.

Farukh’s good work at club level has not gone unnoticed. The man from Maharashtra was picked to make his debut for the Indian national team in 2018, and has proven that he has the mettle to thrive at the highest level.

Now 26, he will hope that he and the club can kick on so that there are even more opportunities to excel on the horizon.
