FC Barcelona 2023/24 season jersey by Nike inspired by the women’s team!

FC Barcelona is presenting a unique kit for the 2023/24 season, the Club’s first to be inspired by the women’s team. It has the classic broad stripes in original blaugrana colours, but with a significant detail – the badge set into a diamond. The diamond represents the first Barça women’s team to ever play a game of football at the stadium now known as Spotify Camp Nou, an example of Barça’s pioneering spirit, always adopting a leading role in both sport and society, allied with continued success.

So, the new jersey aims to commemorate that historic event and is to be presented on Thursday, June 15, with the concept ‘Here, to lead the way’. The badge draws on the spirit of those pioneering ladies who got together in 1970 and played a game of women’s football in the stadium. They led by example, set a precedent, proving themselves to be pioneers, and paving the way for future generations. Now, over 50 years later, young Barça players are set to lead and pave the way for the Club in the coming years, reinforcing one of FC Barcelona’s core concepts, to be leaders in everything they do. The kit also aims to be sustainable by including innovative techniques.

The jersey will feature the men’s and women’s team main partner, Spotify, whose logo is on the front, alongside the Nike logo. The Ambilight TV and Bimbo brands will be on the men’s and women’s first team jersey sleeves respectively. The UNHCR/ACNUR logo will again feature above the number on the back.

The new kit can be bought exclusively from Thursday June 15 via the Club’s and Nike ecommerce platforms, plus at Nikestore Passeig de Gràcia and also every Barça Store – Spotify Camp Nou, Canaletes, Passeig de Gràcia, Sagrada Família, Westfield La Maquinista, La Roca Village, Poble Espanyol, T1 and T2 at Barcelona airport, and the Arenas shopping centre. It will be available in other shops from Wednesday June 21, and in the case of the jerseys of the other sections, these will be available from July 1.

The badge of the pioneers

The new jersey includes a Barça badge like never before on a club kit, as it includes the symbolic diamond representing the first women’s supporters’ club from 1970. The back story to this diamond began that historic year, when Inma Cabeceran sent a letter to the then FC Barcelona president, Agustí Montal i Costa, proposing creating a women’s football team. This resulted in a behind closed doors women’s football match played on Christmas Day in the stadium.

After that game, the Penya Femenina Barcelonista was founded, the first female supporters club, whose crest was a combination of the traditional Barça crest with the typical diamond shape used by the reserve team. This team was eventually granted official recognition in 2002.

The rest as they say is history, as it paved the way for numerous successes, culminating in winning the first Women’s Champions League title in 2021, Ballon d’Or awards for Alexia Putellas, named the best player in the world, and the historic second WCL win on June 3 2023.

The blaugrana stripes on the kit take inspiration from this historic symbol and the presentation campaign for the jersey has drawn on this pioneering spirit, with FC Barcelona players selected for the launch – examples of success and an inspiration for the young people of today looking for role models.

The road to sustainability

Nike’s entire football clothing range from matchday kits and training wear, through to collections for fans, include sustainable innovations in order to limit waste while helping athletes and fans give their best during play.

Nike Football has introduced ground-breaking innovation into their latest collections, with designs based on sustainability to help athletes perform their best. Painstaking research by the design teams led to the creation of a cutting-edge kit, made using Dri-FIT ADV, which allows athletes to move as freely as they want.

Over 75% of all Nike Football clothing is manufactured using 100% recycled polyester, meaning football fans can support their favourite team while reducing the impact on the planet.

A last dinner at the Spotify Camp Nou

Given that Spotify Camp Nou is going to be out of action until November 2024 due to the Espai Barça works, and its symbolism as a location for great pioneers, FC Barcelona and Nike jointly organised a last dinner with artists and players aged under 30 years old, representing today’s role models from the worlds of music and sport.

Bad Gyal, Leiti, Julieta, Mushkaa and La Manso all participated, local artists with a special bond to Barcelona whose careers are taking off in their respective artistic fields. Barça was represented by women’s and men’s first team players Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Patri Guijarro, Caroline Graham Hansen, Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Ansu Fati, and Balde, completing this inspiring get together, shining a spotlight on their shared drive for excellence.

This ‘last dinner’ was also the opportunity to present the new kit to them. They took a group selfie in Spotify Camp Nou, marking the presentation of the new jersey among this gathering of today’s young leaders who will take us into the future.
