FC Goa Dev Team beat Youth Club of Manora 2-0 to move up to fourth!

The FC Goa Developmental Team moved up to fourth on the Goa Pro League table after securing a 2-0 win over Youth Club of Manora at the Duler Stadium in Goa. Goals from Joybert Almeida and HP Lalremruata helped the young Gaurs secure all three points on the day.

Head coach Deggie Cardozo rang in a number of changes following the side’s defeat to Panjim Footballers in their last game. Leslie Rebello partnered Sarineo Fernandes at the heart of the backline while Kapil Hoble was slotted in at left-back. Meanwhile, upfront, Joybert Almeida was given his first start of the season as Vasim Inamdar moved to a more playmaking role in the absence of the suspended Brison Fernandes.

The youngs Gaurs got off to a hot start and tested Louis Barreto in the Manora goal in the 5th minute of the game itself. A brilliant crossfield ball over the top from Kapil Hoble found Delton Colaco on the run. The youngster turned and put the ball into a dangerous area for the onrushing Joybert to attack. The forward got his header on target forcing Louis Barreto in the Manora goal into his first save of the day.

It was again Joybert vs. Barreto a few minutes later as the forward did well to turn his man before unleashing a shot on goal. Barreto, though had other plans and got down well to his left to keep it all square once again.

Joybert though would finally have his moment under the sun. A good break from the left by Delton saw the winger bear down on goal. The winger’s shot though was tame and the rebound into the middle created a melee in the box. Thankfully for FC Goa, Joybert was able to come out on top, delivering from close range to give Deggie Cardozo’s boys a one-goal lead heading into halftime.

The young Gaurs came out the hotter of the two sides following the break. In fact it was a string of fine saves from Bareto and lacklustre finishing from FC Goa that let the score stay 1-0 for the majority of the second half.

Things got especially busy near the Manora goal between the 60th and 70th minute with Vasim, Delton, Joybert and Kapil all threatening to double the Gaurs’ lead.

The second goal to wrap things up did finally come, but the Gaurs had to wait till the 89th minute for the same. Flan Gomes, who had come on as a substitute near the fag end of the game made an immediate impact. The fleet-footed attacker was played in on goal after a timely interception in the Manora half.

Gomes kept his composure in front of goal – squaring the ball to the onrushing HP Lalremruata who stroked the ball into the empty net in front of him.

The win takes FC Goa’s tally to 12 points from 6 games – equal on points with Calangute and Vasco SC and only 4 shy of leaders Salgaocar. The young Gaurs though have a superior goal difference and have a game in hand on Vasco SC while trailing Calangute on goal difference itself.

Deggie Cardozo’s boys will be back in action in the Goa Pro League on March 18 when they take on Churchill Brothers. The game is scheduled for a 3:45 pm kickoff.
