FIFA lifts transfer ban on East Bengal FC!

Kolkata giants East Bengal FC have announced that world governing body FIFA have lifted the transfer ban on the club.

East Bengal FC in a statement said,

Emami East Bengal FC would like to announce that the transfer ban imposed on the Club has been lifted by FIFA after the current management led the process of amicably resolving the administrative issues among the parties. The decision was communicated to the Club at 2 AM on January 26, 2023.

With the lifting of the transfer ban, the Club will now be able to work on registering new players for the upcoming fixtures of ISL (Indian Super League) 2022-23 and the Super Cup.

The ban had originally been enforced by the FIFA Players’ Status Department due to non-payment of salaries to Iranian winger of Indian origin Omid Singh, who was signed by East Bengal Club in the summer of 2020 but then did not feature in the clubs inaugural Indian Super League campaign like multiple Indian players signed by the club.

That non-payment to Omid Singh had led to the FIFA transfer ban which the club with the help of their former backers in Shree Cements clearing the dues, so the club can strengthen their squad in the ongoing January transfer window.
