Figures fuel FC Goa’s push for ISL League Shield!

In what promises to be another thrilling showdown in their campaign in the ongoing 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League (ISL), FC Goa will take on Hyderabad FC at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, on Friday.

With just three games remaining in the league season, the Men in Orange find themselves in a formidable position, sitting fourth on the points table, continuing to chase the dream of clinching the coveted ISL League Shield.

Some of their recent results may suggest that the Gaurs may have strayed off slightly, but the bigger picture continues to show a marked improvement in their performances – especially compared to the last couple of seasons when they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

This time around, they have succeeded on that front well in advance, securing a berth in the knockout stages with four games to go.

Currently trailing current leaders Mumbai City FC by a mere five points, FC Goa’s journey this season began with their remarkable run in the Durand Cup 2023, where they narrowly missed a spot in the final.

This spirited display set the tone for their ISL campaign, as the statistics reveal.

The Gaurs have been a force to reckon with in the league. Having won 10 out of 19 matches, drawing six and losing only three, their performance speaks volumes, boasting one of the best records in the league. With 28 goals scored and a solid defence conceding only 18 goals, they have been able to showcase their ability on both ends of the pitch.

Additionally, they also lead the charts in creating scoring opportunities, with 256 chances created and 33 big chances.

Another point to note is FC Goa’s performances in away games, with 19 goals scored and 16 points claimed on the road, showcasing their ability to deliver under pressure in hostile environments. They were also the only side to wrap up the first half of the league campaign without suffering a single defeat.

Three successive defeats in February led to some concern, but in response, Manolo Marquez and his boys displayed resilience and determination to go unbeaten across their next four matches.

Come next Friday, and they will have an opportunity to add one more to this streak of no losses when Hyderabad FC arrive on Goan shores to pose their next challenge.
