Fiji FA’s COVID-19 assistance brings smiles!

Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA), in partnership with The Punjas Group of Companies, will continue the distribution of OFC Solidarity Fund packages to 400 players and officials.

The OFC Solidarity Fund was developed by Oceania Football Confederation in order to support staff, volunteers, players, coaches, referees and the wider football community across Oceania affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and Tropical Cyclone Harold.

The Fiji FA’s Social Responsibility team, together with Board of Control (BOC) members, handed out grocery parcels in the districts of Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki last week, bringing smiles to the affected players and their families.

Ba resident Doreen Skipper, who is the mother of current Suva rep Simione Nabenu, thanked Fiji FA and OFC after receiving the assistance.

“I am very much thankful to the Fiji FA who has thought of us during these hard times to provide assistance with a good pack of groceries,” she said.

Nadi futsal coach/manager Vikash Chand echoed the sentiments on behalf of the team.

“I would like to thank Fiji FA and OFC for timely assistance with food packs to Nadi futsal players and to all other players around the country during this global pandemic,” he said.

“This help has brought smiles and happiness to players and their families. God Bless Fiji FA and OFC.”

Meanwhile, Nadi goalkeeper Vereti Dickson said what they received was beyond expectation and the package would feed his family for a month.

Project Manager Lavenia Yalovi was genuinely moved after listening to stories from players and their families during the distribution last week.

“I was emotionally touched listening to stories of how COVID-19 and Tropical Cyclone Harold had affected the livelihood of football players, officials and volunteers especially in terms of their food source and income as many footballers depend on their income and allowance from football,” she said.

“It will take time to fully recover but the assistance from OFC through the OFC Solidarity Fund is highly appreciated.”

“We would like to thank all BOC members including President Mr Rajesh Patel, Mr Aiyaz Musa, Mr Jitendra Kumar, Mr and Mrs Roy Krishna and all district officials for assisting the distribution and being at various handover venues to distribute the food packages to recipients.”

The distributions in the Southern and Northern divisions, including Navua, Rewa, Suva, Nasinu, Northland Tailevu and Tailevu Naitasiri will continue this week.
