The two-day tactical Workshop held by Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Administration and Zonal Union Management this week in Cairo, Egypt, focused on practical steps that will lead to accelerated development and stronger cooperation between CAF and the Zonal Unions.
The Workshop, attended by the Six Zonal Union Executive Directors and Staff, is part of the commitment made by CAF Leadership to strengthen the Zonal Unions and also enhance capacity through knowledge exchange.
The inaugural workshop took place from 29 to 30 April 2024. This marked the first of its kind following the introduction of a new structure, in January 2024, across all six Zonal Unions.
CAF invited a number of technical experts to share their insight on various subjects including Strategy Development, Competition, Financial Management, Communication and Marketing.
Other topics covered over the two days included Women’s Football Development, and Safeguarding.
Sarah Mukuna, CAF Director of Member Associations, said: “I would like to thank the Zonal Union Executive Directors and Staff for taking time to travel to Cairo. The two-day workshop was not a one-sided lecture but a platform to exchange views and to zoom into the objectives laid out by the CAF President, Dr Motsepe in strengthening administration at CAF Headquarters, Zonal Unions and Member Associations.”
“The Zonal Unions play a strategic role in decentralizing operations. They are the second pair of eyes for the Headquarters in driving football development within Member Associations. Over the course of two days, discussions held were insightful, fostering an environment conducive to strategic deliberation. The focus on how these newly structured Zonal Unions can further advance the implementation of CAF’s strategy was key. The discussions held also enabled us to get to know the entire Zonal Union team and provide them with appropriate responses to their problems. With this approach, we hope to streamline the operations of the Zonal Unions and bring necessary efficiency amongst all of us in achieving our objectives.”
