Football Australia reaches new milestone with AFC Elite Youth Scheme full membership!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) welcomed Football Australia as the latest Member Association (MA) to be endorsed with a 3-star membership under the AFC Elite Youth Scheme.
The evaluation for the full membership status was conducted in August 2023 by AFC Youth Panel members as well as experts from the Confederation.

Prior to their arrival, the AFC received a comprehensive report detailing Football Australia’s current initiatives and prospective strategies for advancing youth football development in the country.

During the assessment, the members of the AFC Youth Panel were pleased to note Football Australia’s network of collaboration with schools, clubs and academies as well as the high quality of the coaching staff and their expert understanding of elite youth football.

Among the many highlights was the Talent ID Webform, a nationwide talent identification and development system that allows accredited coaches to submit technical assessments and data on players from across regions, schools, and academies, that can be accessed by all concerned stakeholders, such as national youth teams.

Moreover, with Australia still basking in the glory of the national team’s sensational performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, the AFC assessors commended Football Australia’s tireless efforts towards uplifting the women’s game in the country with initiatives such as the Future Matilda programme, curated specifically to identify young talented female footballers to build a steady pipeline of future stars.

Furthermore, to ensure the highest standards of planning and communication, Football Australia has introduced an interactive calendar that comprehensively outlines all football activities, such as national, club as well as school competitions.

“As Football Australia continues to evolve its development programs through collaboration with FIFA and the AFC, being endorsed with a 3-star status under the AFC Elite Youth Scheme confirms we are taking steps as a nation to improve the processes and structures that can enable every talented youth to develop and reach their dreams through football. We are tremendously proud to be recognised in this way,” said Football Australia Technical Director for Men’s Football, Trevor Morgan, and Technical Director for Women’s Football, Rae Dower.
