Forca Goa Foundation wraps up Third Edition of LGL Super Cup!

The fourth edition of the Little Gaurs League (LGL) Super Cup for the 2024-2025 season has successfully wrapped up, marking the grand finale of Goa’s biggest and most vibrant baby league! Hosted by the Forca Goa Foundation (FGF), this cup tournament brought the energy and talent of the LGL season to an electrifying close, with the closing ceremony graced by notable figures from the Goan football fraternity.

This year’s LGL witnessed incredible engagement, with over 1500 players taking part, all leading up to the decisive Super Cup matches. The league expanded its reach across four zones; Sinquetim, Vasco, Monte de Guirim, and Tuem where 162 teams battled it out in five different age groups; U6, U8, U10, U12, and an exclusive U13 girls’ category. Together, these little gaurs played an astounding 1225 matches throughout the season!

The LGL Super Cup, the highly anticipated showdown, took place at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium on a Sunday in Goa. It featured the top two teams from each age category within each zone, bringing together 40 teams and over 350 young players. The atmosphere was electric, with stands filled by parents and supporters creating a truly energetic environment. It was one of the biggest turnout of the season! The closing ceremony was made even more special with the presence of esteemed guests including Coach Premson Fernandes (Head Coach of the U15 team and Assistant Coach for the U13 team), Coach Shane Temudo (Head Coach of the U17 team and Assistant Coach for the Development Team), FC Goa Development team players Akash Oraow (striker) and Manjot Singh (centre-back), and Siraj Benaulikar, the Goa State Head of Reliance Youth Sports.

The Super Cup concluded with final matches, some of which went down to the wire! The U6 final between Magic Sporting Club and Phoenix FC was a nail-biter, ending in a 4-4 draw before Magic Sporting Club clinched victory 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout. The U10 and U8 categories also saw two matches each decided by penalties, showcasing the competitive spirit of these young players. In the U12 category, a crucial quarter-final match between Ignitors and Vintage 73 went to penalties, with the winner securing a spot in the semi-finals. Even the U13 category had a penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.

Beyond the excitement on the pitch, the Forca Goa Foundation also recognized the invaluable contributions of the LGL volunteers, the dedicated referees who ensured fair play, and the physiotherapists from Physio First who looked after the young athletes, presenting them with special medals during the closing ceremony.

The Super Cup concluded with the crowning of champions across the age groups. In the U6 category, Magic Sporting Club from the Monte de Guirim Zone emerged victorious, with Phoenix FC, also from Vasco, as the runners-up. The U8 category saw FC Goa Football Schools from the Monte de Guirim zone clinch the top spot, while Football Club YFA (Youth Futsal Academy) from the Sinquetim Zone secured second place. Ignitors from the Sinquetim zone triumphed in the U10 category, with Football Club YFA (Youth Futsal Academy), again from Sinquetim, taking the runner-up position. The U12 category saw TKSA Titans (The Kings School Academy) from the Sinquetim zone lift the trophy, with Goan Champs from the Monte de Guirim Zone finishing as runners-up. Finally, in the U13 Girls’ category, FC Goa Football Schools from the Monte de Guirim Zone showcased their dominance, with Laxmi Prasad SC, also from Monte de Guirim, as the runners-up.
