With Manchester City visiting Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals on Tuesday, May 9, their home match with Leeds United has moved from Sunday, May 7 to 15:00 BST on Saturday, May 6.

The match will remain live on Sky Sports in the UK, subject to further consultation with relevant stakeholders regarding Article 48.

The usual Saturday 12:30 BST UK live broadcast slot has been avoided so as not to clash with the King’s Coronation, while a later kick-off is not possible due to police resourcing.

With West Ham United hosting AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League semifinals on Thursday, May 11, their trip to FC Brentford has been moved from the Saturday to the Sunday.

What is Article 48?

The period between 14:45 and 17:15 on a Saturday is designated by The Football Association as a closed period (the “Closed Period”) under UEFA Article 48, during which no football matches can be broadcast in the UK.

The Closed Period is designed to protect match attendances at a professional and amateur level and promote grassroots participation.
