Future generation the focus of MAs’ AFC Women’s Football Day celebrations!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), together with 39 Member Associations (MAs), celebrated the eighth AFC Women’s Football Day in March by organising exciting and interesting activities to promote the sport to girls.

The festivities included a range of initiatives including webinars, friendly matches, workshops and giving basic football training to girls. More importantly, the programmes focused on fun and inspired young girls across the Continent to embark on a lifelong journey in the beautiful game.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF)

Young girls from Bangladesh joined festive football camps organised by the BFF in conjunction with the AFC Women’s Football Day celebrations.

More than 500 girls from schools and football academies participated in the camps held at the BFF House in Dhaka as well as in three other districts in Magur, Sirajganj and Mymensingh.

During the camp, the girls took part in trainings and played in small-sided football games before receiving a participation certificate.

Bhutan Football Federation (BFF)

With the theme ‘Share to Inspire’, the BFF celebrated the occasion by organising webinars during the first week of March.

Additionally, an online technical skills competition and a story writing contest for different age groups were organised to encourage women’s involvement on and off the pitch.

Key speakers also attended the webinars to share best practices and knowledge to the BFF’s technical staff members and players.

DPR Korea Football Association (DPRK FA)

Over 60 girls had the opportunity to learn from the DPRK FA’s women’s coaches and former national team players.

O Kum Hui, the Pyongyang International Football School coach, started the celebrations by sharing a presentation which emphasised on the experience gained from teaching basic football techniques to girls from the younger age groups.

The participants were then guided by experts on basic football training such as ball control and dribbling.

The Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU)

The KFU celebrated the AFC Women’s Football Day festival with the theme “Girls Can Do Anything” that was also attended by influential women in the country.

The event was staged in three cities – Bishkek, Belovodsk and Nizhne-Chuisk – to inspire and motivate more girls to play football.

Girls from the age of 10 to 15 joined the celebrations and had the opportunity to learn the basics of football.

Myanmar Football Federation (MFF)

A Women Coaches’ Development Workshop and friendly matches were the highlight of the MFF’s AFC Women’s Football Day celebrations.

Held at the Thuwunna Football Stadium, the workshop was conducted by MFF local coaching instructor and attended by 30 women coaches from the national team and women’s league clubs.

Separately, 120 players from the women’s national team, women coaches and women referees also participated in friendly matches.

Oman Football Association (OFA)

Students from three public schools in Oman participated in the activities organised by the OFA at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium.

As many as 70 players and students joined the event that was supervised by OFA’s technical and administrative staff members.

The stadium was divided into several sections for players to participate in 7 x 7 games as part of the efforts from the OFA to support and continue developing women’s football.

Football Association of Singapore (FAS)

Over 120 participants benefitted from the FAS’ Women’s Football Conference and U12 Girls’ Fiesta.

Key speakers joined the conference with expert panelists sharing their advice and experience based on different topics related to football.

Meanwhile, young girls had the opportunity to meet the Singapore Women’s National Team players during the U12 Girls’ Fiesta.

The Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand)

As many as 68 players joined the FA Thailand’s AFC Women’s Football Day activity held at the Jaifah Academy in Lopburi.

The event, which was overseen by coaches, saw players participate in fun games and matches on a football pitch that was divided into several sections.

Players were separated into two big groups and took turns to join different sessions that lasted for an hour.

Football Federation of Turkmenistan (FFT)

The FFT together with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan held a football festival in Ashgabat to promote and attract more girls to play the sport.

It was supported by the women’s national teams, futsal teams, youth football teams and athletes of the National Center for the Special Olympics of Turkmenistan.

The celebration was a huge success with young girls experiencing the joy of playing and developing life lessons through the sport.
