German FA (DFB) & UEFA double down on commitment to sustainable EURO 2024!

With the qualifying draw for UEFA EURO 2024 imminent, UEFA and the German Football Association (DFB) have underlined their joint commitment to ensuring the tournament will be a driver for sustainable development across sport and society

“Less than two years before the tournament, we are on the threshold between conceptualisation and implementation. The anticipation is rising. And so is the responsibility for us as organisers,” said Bernd Neuendorf, DFB President, after a recent meeting with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin in Nyon, Switzerland.

“For the first time ever in the EURO’s history, we have ensured that sustainability objectives, such as respect for human rights and the environment, are fully embedded in the official tournament regulations,” said Mr Čeferin.

The EURO 2024 hosts and the official organisers have already taken significant steps to back up their words. For example, the tournament match schedule is deliberately designed to minimise travel for teams and fans. At the same time, the event’s ten designated host cities will rely entirely on existing stadiums and facilities to stage their allocated matches.

EURO 2024 qualifying draw

The official EURO 2024 qualifying draw will take place at Frankfurt’s Festhalle conference centre on October 9, with the first round of group matches set to kick off in March 2023.

The brand-new DFB Campus, official home of German football on Frankfurt’s Kennedyallee, will provide an impressive setting for the pre-qualifying draw dinner. Guests include tournament director and former Germany captain Philipp Lahm as well as tournament ambassador Célia Šašić.

The new campus includes a state-of-the-art academy designed to keep Germany at the forefront of football development programmes, as well as indoor pitches and training facilities for all German national teams, including futsal.
