Germany’s DFB names Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf & Cologne as 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup candidate cities!

Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne are the cities with which the German Football Association (DFB) is applying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This was decided by the DFB Executive Committee at its meeting last Friday. The DFB wants to host the tournament in five years together with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA).

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said, “The selection of candidate cities is a decisive factor in submitting an outstanding application. We pursue no lesser claim. We are convinced that the selected cities and stadiums offer excellent conditions for hosting the tournament and will help to take the FIFA Women’s World Cup to a new level.”

Seven cities from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) had participated in the application process. Among other things, the call for applications involved submitting a letter of motivation, developing concepts for the development of women’s football and the promotion of women and diversity, as well as presenting ideas on the sustainability of the event. Other applicants were Aachen, Gelsenkirchen and Mönchengladbach.

The Dutch Football Association and the Belgian Football Association will make and communicate their decisions on which Candidate Cities to apply together at a later date.
