Germany’s Lukas Podolski to lead the FIFA World Cup winners in his final game!

FIFA World Cup champions Germany are set to face England tomorrow at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund in an international friendly, which will mark the final game in a Germany shirt for Lukas Podolski.

31 year old Lukas Podolski will wear a Germany shirt for the 130th and final time, only Lothar Matthäus and Miroslav Klose have more caps for the four time world champions.

Germany head coach Joachim Löw said about Podolski’s final game, “It’s going to be a wonderful moment, but for a sad one as well at the same time. We have come a long way with one another, cleared many hurdles, experienced disappointment but also had the best form of elation that a trainer or a player can experience by winning the World Cup in 2014. The circumstances tomorrow are totally perfect. It’s the right surroundings and the right atmosphere in the stadium. So many are coming just for Lukas, he is one of the best players Germany had produced.”

Podolski started his international career in 2004 as a teenager ahead of Euro 2004 together with his good, old friend Bastian Schweinsteiger with whom he created a new interest and craze in German football. It was Poldi & Schweini ahead of the 2006 FIFA World Cup at home in Germany, which culminated in the triumph at Rio de Janeiro in July 2014 as the golden generation of German footballers lifted the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Podolski is one of the most loved footballers in Germany with especially his humour and always smiling attitude striking a cord with the coaching staff, fans and everyone around.
