The Goa Football Association 2017-18 league season officially begins from Saturday, September 9 as the Goa Third Division League kicks-off in Salcete.
While the Champions Trophy Charity Match marked the curtain raiser for the GFA Season with Salgaocar FC clinching the title with an easy win over FC Bardez, the GFA’s league officially begins on Saturday with their Third Division League.
Altogether 28 teams are participating in the Salcete Zone with Carmona SC clashing with Margao SC at Cavelossim ground in the their Group C encounter. Elsewhere, Chandor Club travel to Curtorim ground as they play Sao Jose de Areal SC in their Group D clash.
The teams are divided in four groups as the top two teams from each group will qualify for the play-off.
Speaking on the occasion, GFA General Secretary said, “We begin with the Goa Football Association’s League season from Saturday. The Third Division league is a most accommodated league as around 70 clubs ply their trade here in the various zones. We have 28 teams from Salcete itself.”
“We wish all the teams good luck ahead of the new season as we look for a competitive season,” he exclaimed.
Around 25 teams are participating in the Bardez zone. The teams are potted in four groups and will begin their campaign from September 10. Cunchelim SC will take on Vailankanni FSC in their Group A clash at Chapora ground. Ilhas Zone matches will begin later.
Salcete Zone teams:
Group A: Arlem Youth Association, Our Lady of Gloria SC, Raia Sporting Club, Raitura SC, Shiroda Youth Club, Socio Cultural Club Loutolim, St Sebastian YC Fatorda.
Group B: Carmel SC, Dramapur SC, Enfermos SC, Navelim Sporting Club, Santa Cruz Society of Poitimado, Sirvodem SC, Sporting Club of Davorlim.
Group C: Carmona SC, Dando Boys Club Benaulim, St Anthony’s Club Colva, St Rock’s YC Calata, Margao SC, United Club of Benaulim, United Boys of Dando Colva.
Group D: Chandor Club v. Fr Agnel YSC Paroda, Guirdolim Club, Maina SC, Sao Jose de Areal SC, St Anthony’s SC Assolda, Ugem Rising Club.
Bardez Zone teams:
Group A: ABC SC, Arambol, Chapora Yuvak Sangh, Cunchelim SC, FC Siolim, Peddem Bomm SC, Sai Avtaar SC, Vailankanni FSC Morjim.
Group B: Assonora United SC, Football Club de Sanquelim, Goan Warriors FC, Sirsaim Sports and Welfare Club, Milagres SC, Benny XI SC.
Group C: Augustias Sporting Club, Bastora United SC, Youth Sports Club of Colvale, Friends XI SC, St Domnic Savio Sports Club, St Sebastian SC.
Group D: Guirim Youth Cultural & SC, Holiday SC, Nerul SC, Parra Verla Canca Association, Saligao United, United Club of Nerul.
