Goa Sub-Junior boys beat Gujarat 3-1 in West Zone, qualify for the next round!

The Goa Sub-Junior boys continued their fine form in the Sub Junior National Football Championship being held at Indore in Madhya Pradesh as they breezed 3-1 past Gujarat in an exciting encounter on Thursday, December 22. Macenzie Fernandes (46′) opened the scoreline for Goa while Richard Carvalho (59′ & 65′) added two more, while Kevin Luis scored the consolation goal for Gujarat.

The first half saw Goa dominate the proceedings as Harsh Parte was very effective in the midfield creating a lot of chances for the strikers upfront. Goa should have taken the lead on three occasions which saw Rohan Viegas and Necio Fernandes miss the net from a handshaking distance. The score stayed goalless at end of the first half.

The second half witnessed a lot of goalmouth action and also goal. In the opening minute itself Goa broke the deadlock through Macenzie Fernandes who latched on to a good cross from Richard Cardozo on the right. Around the hour mark Necio Fernandes controlled a long ball from Anstein Rodrigues in the deep to set up Richard who tapped home the second goal for Goa. Richard made it 3-0 in the 65th minute when a well read move from Brandon found the former lurking in the box to put it past the Gujarat keeper. The consolation goal for Gujarat was scored by Kevin Luis from the spot.

With their second win the Goan lads have qualified for the next round of Sub Junior National Football Championship.
