FC Bardez beat the already champions Sporting Clube de Goa in an inconsequential final league match of the U-20 TACA Goa held at Duler Stadium in Mapusa. An 84th minute header from Viraj Naik handed the Champions their first defeat of this campaign. After this result Sporting Goa stay on top with 19 points from eight matches while FC Bardez climb into third spot with 15 points from same number of matches.
The first 25 odd minutes of the match lacked any goalmouth action at either ends. Both teams were contained by rotating the ball in their half while launching a few half hearted attempts. The first real attempt on goal was by the young Oranje at the half hour mark when they won a free kick at about 25 yards away from the post. Myron Fernandes who took the strike missed the net by a whisker. Towards the closing stages of the first half Myron Fernandes created a good move on the left to find Prisco Moura in the box; the latter smartly placed the ball towards a charging Harshad on the right who whacks it out from a hand shaking distance. The score stayed 0 – 0 at the break.
Crossing over Sporting Goa started with some new found intent. In the very first minute of the second half Sporting Goa created a good move through Harshad who found Brandon Gomes at the edge of the box, the latter took a swing hitting the post. The rebound was once again struck well by Snedden Rodrigues who was again denied by the wood work.
After this it was FC Bardez who came up with some promising moves. In the 52nd minute Anil Chavan made a dazzling run on the right to set up Ronil Azavedo who sent the ball up into the sky. In the 57th minute Sherwin da Cunha pulled out a good save when he pushed off a towering header from Ronil. It was FC Bardez who managed to sneak one in late in the second half when Viraj Naik header crawled in through a flooded Sporting Goa box. The young Oranje almost equalised when Shawn Noronha struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box but was denied by the far post. In the end the match ended 1–0 in favour of FC Bardez.
