The Association for the Wellbeing of Elder Sportspersons (AWES) will have its second annual get-together of former players, officials and administrators at Coco Loco, Agassaim, on Sunday, April 8 from 11.30am onwards.
The first of its kind get-together organised last year by AWES saw footballers come together and share wonderful memories. This time around, AWES has attempted to bring together sportspersons from all disciplines, above the age of 60, and are expecting a fun-filled afternoon.
The afternoon will see felicitation of Francisco Monte Cruz, former Minister of Sports, Government of Goa, who has been credited with overseeing the construction of the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Margao, in a record time of six months.
Had it not been for Monte Cruz’s remarkable contribution, the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium would not have seen the light of the day so soon.
“This is our sincere effort to recognise what Monte Cruz did not just for Goan football but also Goan sports. No Goan sports enthusiast can forget Monte Cruz’s efforts,” said AWES president Avertano Furtado.
