Grayson calls for reaction as Bengaluru FC travel to face FC Goa!

Head Coach Simon Grayson said he was keen to see a reaction from his Bengaluru FC side, as they take on FC Goa in what will be their fifth away encounter of the 2022-23 Indian Super League campaign in Goa on Saturday. The Blues are currently placed 10th on the table, having won just one out of six encounters this term.

“What I’ve seen since our last match (against Mumbai City FC) is a good reaction from the players in training and a positive vibe around the squad. There’s a bit of an edge to the sessions, with even the best players kicking each other. It’s frightening at times, but it’s also something we have to do. We’re performing well on the training pitch, but ultimately, what’s important is that we see that in the matches,” said Grayson, speaking to the media.

While the Blues come into the game off the back of four defeats on the spin, FC Goa shrugged off a 1-3 loss to Kerala Blasters to win 3-0 against ATK Mohun Bagan at the Fatorda last week. With 12 points to their name, the Gaurs are currently placed fourth in the League, with four wins in six. Carlos Pena’s side have been buoyed by the form of Moroccan winger Noah Sadaoui, who is joint-top on the League’s goalscoring charts with four strikes in six matches.

“FC Goa are a team that went from being a possession-based side to one that likes to switch things up and mix it around. They keep the ball well, but they also have some fast players up front and they’ll try to use them against us in whatever way they can. It’s important that we concentrate on ourselves, and I do believe that if we cut out our mistakes, we can bring back a positive result on Saturday,” Grayson added.

The Englishman offered an update on Blues’ striker Prince Ibara, who has yet to feature for the club in the League, confirming that the Congolese International has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

“As you know, Prince has not been available for us this season and he had an operation last week in Mumbai. He had a hamstring injury followed by another, and needed to get a tendon repaired, which rules him out for the rest of the season. We’ve been working on a possible replacement and are looking to get someone in really soon,” said Grayson.

Kick-off between the Blues and FC Goa is scheduled for 5.30pm IST, and will be telecast live on the STAR Sports Network, Disney+Hotstar and JioTV.
