Ground-breaking SAFF Regional Safeguarding Seminar concludes in Maldives!

The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), in collaboration with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), organised its first-ever Regional Safeguarding Seminar which welcomed safeguarding officers from the South Zone to share their vision and strategy to safeguard the wellbeing of children in football.

Themed “Safeguarding 360”, the two-day seminar was designed and dedicated towards cultivating greater awareness in safeguarding in football while presenting the progress of safeguarding projects in Member Associations (MA) and providing them with a platform to exchange views on regional safeguarding approaches.

Hosted by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), the seminar was attended by the AFC Deputy General Secretary Vahid Kardany alongside the FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the SAFF General Secretary Anwarul Huq and the FAM General Secretary Hussain Jawaz.

Gloria Viseras, FIFA Senior Event Safeguarding and Marie-Laure Lemineur, FIFA’s Safeguarding Training and Capacity Building Manager attended the seminar to create regional momentum ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that will adopt Competitions Safeguarding.

More experienced speakers from the Commonwealth, the City Football Group, the Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) Foundations Maldives and the Keep Children Safe also shared their global approach to local safeguarding in professional football organisations and the establishment of a safeguarding policy.

At the meeting, safeguarding managers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka exchanged ideas, insights and challenges faced in their countries and discussed ways to create a safe environment in football.

Participants also agreed on the key priorities for the ‘SAFF Regional Safeguarding Strategy’ which is a tailormade regional framework of safeguarding actions to be implemented in the next four years.
