Hungary’s Dominik Szoboszlai joins RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg!

Talented 20 year old Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai has joined RB Leipzig from Austrian champions FC Red Bull Salzburg and signs a four-and-a-half-year contract until June 2025.

The technical midfielder, who also knows how to find the back of the net, is a versatile player, but operates most commonly in the centre of midfield or on the left-hand side. In addition to his vision and passing ability, the Hungary international is a great striker of the ball.

Szoboszlai made his debut for the Hungary national team in March 2019 and has gone on to record 12 international caps (three goals) for his country. In the current season, the midfielder has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and registering ten assists.

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said, “With the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai, we’ve been able to further strengthen our squad. With the positive net spend in the summer as well as reaching the knockout round of the Champions League, we’ve been able to use the revenue to make a transfer of this size even in these financially difficult times. It was important to us that we invested this income directly into the team. With Dominik Szoboszlai, the squad has depth in more areas and gets more quality.”

RB Leipzig Sporting director Markus Krösche said, “We’re happy to have been able to sign Dominik Szoboszlai and pleased that he’ll be able to help us from January onwards. From the beginning, the talks with Dominik and his agent were very positive, and we’re proud that Dominik chose RB Leipzig, as there were several offers from Europe’s top clubs on the table. That speaks a lot for our journey and ambitions. Dominik has extraordinary potential and can play in every position in midfield. With his ability to use both feet and his threat from distance and set pieces, he brings an incredible amount of skills that will enrich our football.”

New signing Dominik Szoboszlai said, “I’m very pleased that this transfer has been completed. The club has developed fantastically. It is among the best teams in the Bundesliga and is also doing well in the Champions League. This step is perfect for my development. I’m coming to Leipzig to work under a top coach and in an extremely ambitious team, that is very young but also has a lot of experience and has been able to celebrate success. Here, I’ll be able to continue my development incredibly and I want to help the club to continue its success in 2021.”

For RB Leipzig, Dominik will wear the number 17 shirt and will be available for the home game against Borussia Dortmund on January 9, 2021.
