I-League champions Chennai City FC sign Katsumi Yusa!

I-League champions Chennai City FC have announced the signing Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa from I-League rivals NEROCA FC for the upcoming 2019/20 Indian club football season. Katsumi joins Chennai City FC under their Asian player quota ahead of their Asian continental debut in 2020.

30 year old Fukushima-born Katsumi Yusa started his youth career with J-League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima, where he also made his professional debut but never made a proper breakthrough at the club. He spend time on loan at lower league side Zweigen Kanazawa before spending time at Paraguayan División Intermedia side San Lorenzo.

In 2011 Katsumi Yusa joined then I-League side ONGC of Mumbai and stayed for a second season in which ONGC after relegation played in the Second Division I-League. In May 2013, Katsumi Yusa then joined Mohun Bagan for a long and successful stint. In between he spend a few months on loan with NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League – Season 3.

Katsumi Yusa has been a key player for the Mariners over the four season he was at the club in which Mohun Bagan won the 2014/15 I-League title and the 2016 Federation Cup with Katsumi being the captain.

Thereafter Katsumi joined archrival East Bengal Club for a mixed I-League campaign in which the red and gold could not win the I-League title.

Last season Katsumi Yusa spend with NEROCA FC where he ably led their midfield.

There were rumours in recent days that Katsumi would return to old club Mohun Bagan, but by signing for Chennai City FC, he has ended those speculations about a return to Kolkata.
