I-League clubs start #SaveILeagueSaveIndianFootball campaign!

A massive stir has been created on social media and amongst I-League clubs after Star Sports announced that 30 of the remaining 2018/19 season I-League matches would not be broadcast.

This means that in this season, the 2018/19 I-League, a total of 80 out of 110 matches are to be broadcast live from across India. Something which the broadcaster Star Sports had informed before the season had started but no one really seemed have paid any attention to that fact as the issue died out without any reaction.

Now with their announcement on Saturday that 30 of the remaining I-League matches would not be broadcast at all, first there were negative reactions on social media and then the I-League clubs became active to try and change this fact by asking for a meeting with AIFF president Praful Patel, who they hope could influence Star Sports.

Amongst other things the I-League’s put out the above shown hashtag logo #SaveILeagueSaveIndianFootball with the text reading “I-League clubs stand united in our protest against the injustice meted out by the powers that control Indian Football.”

While another text was, “In light of the recent news of most of the remaining I-League matches not being telecast, I-League clubs seek an urgent meeting with the caretaker of Indian Football and President of the AIFF, Mr. Praful Patel.”

One will have to wait and see if the I-League clubs can bring about a change of heart from Star Sports and that they show all the remaining I-League matches.
