I-League – Round 6: The snake and ladder game begins in deadly earnest!

If there is a singular lesson to be learnt from the myths of lore — or even the myths of the stock market — it is that for every high there is a fall.

It is also a basic rule of physics. One that Shillong Lajong FC and Delhi FC will be foolish to disregard at their own risk. The two teams finished the previous round as huge victors in key games and will face off to continue a rich vein of form.

It’s tough to say which win was the more impressive. Delhi FC laid on a masterclass in Aizawl FC, beating the former I-League champions 5-1 on their home turf. It was a game defined by their ability to switch gears when needed — as they did, going two goals ahead, slowing down, ans then switching up when Aizawl got their lone goal of the game.

As adept as Delhi FC were at using and benefitting from their Brazilians up front, Lajong FC were more so. The local nature of the Shillong side often captures not just attention hut also flair. Against Gokulam Kerala FC though, it was two Brazilians who ran the show, sparking a filled stadium to its feet.

The first loss of the season has left Gokulam Kerala in third place looking up at two teams they have yet to play this season. While Mohammedan Sporting continue their unbeaten, impressive start, Sreenidi Deccan FC have finally worked a way back to winning thrashing TRAU FC 5-0 after two lacklustre performances in a row. They next play Rajasthan United FC, a team who have endured three losses already this season, and will, literally, be playing their home fixture on Sreenidi DeccanFC home turf.

In a league where every result matters, losses start adding up. Rajasthan United FC are second from bottom, two points ahead of TRAU and one behind NEROCA.

If it is a surprise that the new entrants have been composed and secure in mid table then this is the week to find out the stone they are made of. Inter Kashi play their first home game against Mohammedan Sporting in a key fixture for both sides and Namdhari travel to a bruised Aizawl FC to begin the round six fixtures.
