In surprise move, SC East Bengal replace Robbie Fowler with Manolo Diaz!

In a somewhat of a surprise move this afternoon, SC East Bengal first announced the departure of head coach Robbie Fowler and then announced the arrival of Spanish coach Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz for the 2021/22 Indian Super League.

With over 20 years of coaching experience, including a significant period of time in the Real Madrid Academy and Reserve set-up, José Manuel Díaz Fernández brings with him a wealth of experience and a winning mentality.

The 53-year-old Madrid-born has an overall win rate of 41.77 percent over 328 matches coached in his two-decade career, and a 46.66 win rate in his latest stint at Real Madrid Castilla (2018-19).

“In Madrid, we say ‘Winning is in our DNA’. We love the pressure and expectation that comes with coaching a big club,” Manolo said.

“Time is short and there is a long and difficult road ahead, but we will do our best to deliver good performances for all SC East Bengal fans,” Manolo in his first statement as SC East Bengal head coach said.

Earlier SC East Bengal had confirmed that the club has agreed with Robbie Fowler to a mutual termination of the head coach’s contract.

Alongside his assistant Tony Grant, he took charge of the team in a very challenging period of transition and managed to overcome significant odds to bring the fans some moments of joy in the club’s first-ever ISL season.
