Chanmari FC and Chhinga Veng FC enjoyed a bright start to their Independence Day Cup 2017 campaigns with emphatic victories over Mizoram Police FC and Chanmari West FC in the first two Group B matches at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl today.
A dominant Chanmari FC were up by two goals as early as the 20th minute with strikes from P.C. Zosangliana and Jakob Vanlalhlimpuia. The reigning MPL champions continued to enjoy possession throughout the first 45 minutes.
They got their third shortly after the restart as P.C. Zosangliana scored his second of the match and Lalrosanga ensured it was a good day at the office for his team by scoring their fourth four minutes later.
The second fixture of the day was a rematch of the MFA Super Cup final with Super Cup champions Chhinga Veng FC squaring off against Chanmari West FC for the second time in a week.
Chhinga Veng FC took the lead when Malsawmfela scored on the 9th minute but the West Warriors found an equaliser through Lalnunmawia on the 30th minute. M.S. Dawngliana then made sure Chhinga Veng FC went into the break with a lead when he scored right before the half time whistle.
Chhinga Veng FC got their third immediately after the restart through an own goal from Lalmawizuala on the 47th minute.
And the Super Cup champions managed to score five past Chanmari West FC for the second time in a week when winger Laldampuia grabbed a second half brace.
