India & Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri tests positive for COVID-19!

In bad news, Indian national football team and Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri has tested positive for COVID-19.

Sunil Chhetri in a tweet wrote, “In a not-so-happy update, I’ve tested positive for COVID-19. In better news, I feel fine as I continue my recovery from the virus and should be back on a football pitch soon. No better time to keep reminding everyone to continue taking all the safety precautions always.”

This positive Coronavirus test for Sunil Chhetri means that he surely will be unavailable for India’s friendly against Oman on March 25, while it is unclear at the moment if Sunil would be called-up for the second friendly against the United Arab Emirates on March 29.

Sunil Chhetri will then also would be available for Bengaluru FC’s 2021 AFC Cup qualifier on April 14 against either Nepal Army Club or Sri Lanka Police.

After spending close to four months in a secure bio bubble for the 2020/21 Indian Super League, Sunil Chhetri was out of the bio after his teams exit and contracted the Coronavirus.
