India U-19 Women’s coach Sajid Dar: Primary Objective is to improve Fitness Level!

india-u19-women-sajid-darThe Indian Women’s Under-19 girls are presently in a Preparatory Camp in Gandhinagar as they train hard for the forthcoming AFC U-19 Women’s Championship qualifiers early next month. The Camp which kicked-off on September 30 will continue to October 29. In a chat with AIFF Media, Head Coach Sajid Dar reflected on the target in the Camp, the road ahead, the Group, and much more.

How has the camp shaped up?

It’s been less than a week that we have been based here. Everything is smooth and we haven’t faced any roadblocks.

It’s a 30-day Camp. What are your targets?

At present we have 32 girls sweating it hard. We need to zero down on the best 23 for the tour. The primary task in the 30-day Camp will be to improve on the fitness levels. I feel within a week the fitness levels will improve for sure.

Once that is done what will you concentrate on?

There are various elements that we need to focus on. Once we are through with the first 10 days, we will look at our opponents and fix up our game plan. We will be taking one match at a time.

Since Philippines have backed out of the Qualifiers, it’s a 3-team affair now. Is it a blessing in disguise?

I wouldn’t say so; rather it’s a bit tough now. We have been clubbed with hosts Vietnam and a strong Iran, both of whom are tough opponents. We have to be on our toes throughout the Championship to secure a berth in the AFC U-19 Championship next year.

Vietnam’s climate is similar to ours. Will it aid our campaign to an extent?

Yes! At least it wouldn’t pose any threat to us – that’s all that I can say. The temperature and the humidity levels are pretty similar to us and hopefully, we can perform up to our potential.
