The Indian Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Friday said he will speak to the All India Football Federation on the issue of I-League champions Aizawl FC threatening a fast unto death if they are left out of a proposed unified new top tier league in India.
“As far as the controversy between Aizawl FC and Indian Super League (ISL) is concerned, I’m going to talk to the AIFF. Definitely I would like to take their case up at AIFF,” Goel said during his inspection of the Saltlake Stadium’s preparation in Kolkata for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The minister added that so far he had not received any communication from the I-League champions Aizawl FC on the matter, but clearly from the above mentioned statement, he would be sympethatic to their cause.

In an earlier statement Aizawl FC had said, “If no positive response is received from AIFF, the club will approach central Sports Minister, Prime Minister of India and also president of AFC (Asian Football Confederation).”
“If all these steps are failed, the club will have no other choice but to resort to world-wide protests, sitting demonstration near AFC/Fifa offices, picketing of AIFF office, mass hunger strike/fast unto death protest,” the club statement went on to say.
