Inter Miami sign US international midfielder Julian Gressel!

Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed reigning MLS Cup champion and U.S. Men’s National Team versatile player Julian Gressel to a contract running through the 2026 Major League Soccer season, with an option for 2027. The midfielder, who can also play as a fullback, joins the Club after winning his second MLS Cup, having won his first managed by head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino in 2018.

“Julian is an established player with a winning track record in the league who has proven himself at every stage during his MLS career,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson. “We are pleased to add him to our squad as his versatility and quality delivery will bolster Inter Miami as we look to build on the successes of last season in 2024.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining such an ambitious organization as Inter Miami for this new chapter in my career. I’m ready to get to work and use my experience in this league to help my new teammates and this great Club achieve its dream of winning more titles,” said Gressel.

Gressel brings a plethora of winning experience in the North American fútbol landscape after previously winning two MLS Cups, a U.S. Open Cup, a Campeones Cup and two Canadian Championships. Inter Miami’s latest signing has also represented the USMNT at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Neustadt, Germany native, who also has American citizenship, has spent the entirety of his professional career in MLS, totalling 228 appearances and recording 27 goals and 68 assists in league play.

Gressel began his MLS career in 2017 after being selected by Atlanta United with the eighth overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft 2017. He then went on to have three outstanding seasons in Atlanta lead by Inter Miami head coach Martino, making a total of 107 MLS appearances, tallying 17 goals and 37 assists, and helping the team win the 2018 MLS Cup, 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and 2019 Campeones Cup titles, while also earning MLS Rookie of the Year honors in 2017 after a stellar breakout season.

The versatile midfielder also spent time playing for D.C. United and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He made 56 appearances and recorded four goals and 16 assists in his two and a half seasons at D.C. from 2020 to 2022, before moving to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Gressel then helped the team win back to back Canadian Championship titles in 2022 and 2023, and made 31 MLS appearances in one and a half seasons, scoring five goals and registering seven assists.

On the international stage, Gressel has featured for the USMNT on six occasions, including four at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
