Intercontinental Cup: India & Kenya to face each other for the first time ever!

After their opening rounds win, hosts India will face Kenya in the Intercontinental Cup at the Mumbai Football Arena on Monday, June 4 evening.

It will be the first-ever meeting in an official international football match between India, ranked 97, and Kenya, ranked 111.

India impressed in their 5-0 drubbing against Chinese Taipei, while a depleted Kenya scored a 2-1 comeback win over New Zealand.

Indian national team coach Stephen Constantine said, “I am aware of the quality of the players whom Kenya have brought in and they are playing all across Europe. Kenya will be giving us different problems and we need them in our developmental process. Physically we are prepared and we need to now prepare tactically.”

What makes tomorrow nights match so special is the fact that India captain Sunil Chhetri will be playing his 100th international game, a milestone only achieved by former captain Baichung Bhutia.

Meanwhile Kenya’s assistant coach Francis Kimanji said, “We would like to grab this opportunity with both hands. On the behalf of the Kenya Football Federation, we would like to thank AIFF (All India Football Federation) for inviting us. It’ll surely be an interesting challenge for our boys and they’re up to utilise this opportunity.”

Tickets for the match against Kenya are available online on www.bookmyshow.com and also at the box office counters at the venue. The match will also be telecast live on Star Sports 2, Star Sports HD 2, Jio TV and Hotstar.
