ISL-3: Atletico de Kolkata score late to draw 1-1 with NorthEast United FC!

atletico-de-kolkata-northeast-united-fcFormer Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata needed a late goal from Iain Hume to score a 1-1 draw against NorthEast United FC at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata on Thursday night.

The hosts had the worst possible start as a defensive error led to striker Nico Velez getting the ball, going past keeper Debjit Majumder and scoring for NorthEast United FC in just the fifth minute.

Thereafter Atletico de Kolkata went into attack in search of the equaliser but chances of Lalrindika Ralte, Helder Postiga, Henrique Sereno Fonseca and Stephen Pearson all did not get the desired result of a goal, therefore NorthEast United FC went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Atletico de Kolkata had the first chance of the second session with Javi Lara’s corner kept out by a Robin Gurung header in the 52nd minute. Thereafter ATK had more of the ball but the guests from NorthEast United FC had the better chances with Nico Velez first denied before Emiliano Alvaro first had his header collected by Debjit Majumder before he was free but shot the ball into the arms of Majumder, not sealing the three points for the Highlanders.

A minute from time a Javi Lara free kick was headed on by Helder Postiga before an alert Iain Hume tapped the ball in to give Atletico de Kolkata a late equaliser and deny NorthEast United FC the three points.
