The Kerala Blasters scored a vital 2-1 victory over FC Pune City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi in the Indian Super League – Season 3 to strengthen their position in the table for a place in the semifinals.
The Kerala Blasters were directly in the match with Kervens Belfort, C.K. Vineeth and Duckens Nazon causing the FC Pune City backline a lot of problems and it was a Nazon effort which beat D. Ravanan and Gouramangi Singh before slotting home past Edel Bete in the 7th minute which gave the home the lead.
The Blaster initially kept up the pressure but it stayed 1-0 for them before Pune City also got into the game in end to end stuff with Vineeth for the home side and Izumi Arata for the visitors missing a few good opportunities to score. At the break, the Kerala Blasters were leading 1-0.
Both teams came out all guns blazing into the second half but it was the Blasters who doubled their lead in the 57th minute when their captain Aaron Hughes headed into an empty goal off a high Vineeth cross.
Both sides continued to have their chances, but FC Pune City were only able to reduce the deficit in injury time when Anibal Rodriguez fired in a free kick. The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Kerala Blasters, who took a big step towards the semifinals, while FC Pune City will have to win their final game and hope for favourable results to have any chance of progressing into the knockout stages of the ISL.
