In an Indian Super League – Season 3 match in which the winner would go top of the league, NorthEast United FC suffered a 0-1 home loss to Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.
The guests from Mumbai City FC had a couple of early chances set up by Diego Forlan, first a through ball was put wide by Jackichand Singh and then a freekick collected by Wellington Gomes ahead of Leo Costa, before NorthEast United FC had their own chances through Holicharan Narzary, who put his shot wide before Emiliano Alfaro’s attempt was brilliantly saved by keeper Albino Gomes.
Just as one felt the game would go goalless into the break, NorthEast United FC keeper Wellington Gomes made a horrendous mistake as he was put under pressure by Sony Norde, tried to make his way around the Haitian, who got a touch to the ball and Jackichand banged the ball in for the lead.
Things got a little rough in the second half, but both teams survived without any red cards as NorthEast United FC were only able to assert pressure in the final quarter of the match. First a scramble in the Mumbai City FC box was kept out and then the resultant corner was headed goalwards by Seityasen Singh, but into the safe hands of Albino Gomes.
At the other end Matias Defederico could have sealed the game for his side, but his shot went, still it was enough as Mumbai City FC scored a big 1-0 away win at NorthEast United FC.
