ISL/I-League Merger: IFA (West Bengal) requests another meeting with AIFF before Kuala Lumpur meeting!

The Indian Football Association (West Bengal) has written a letter to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) asking for another meeting between the AIFF and the Kolkata giants – East Bengal Club and Mohun Bagan AC – about their proposed induction into the Indian Super League ahead of a scheduled meeting at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on June 7.

IFA Secretary Utpal Kumar Ganguli told IANS in Kolkata on Tuesday, “The letter has been sent in line with the meeting we had with both the clubs recently. I am still awaiting a reply from Mr. Patel.”

“I cannot give our the content of the letter but I have written in detail whatever was discussed in the meeting here a few days back and expressed our concerns,” Mr. Ganguli added.

In the latest of a series of meetings held last Saturday, May 27 in Kolkata, a record number of 18 office bearers from the two archrivals joined hands to up the pressure against the Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL), the organisers of the Indian Super League and the AIFF as their parent body, threatening to disrupt the cash-rich event if their demands were not met. These included three points that they would not pay the licensee fee of INR 15 crores, they would play their home matches in Kolkata and they would receive money from the central pool.

This meeting came after both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan picked up the ISL’s ‘Invitation To Bid’ document but did not submit the necessary documents to be considered for the ISL expansion.

Both Kolkata clubs have booked flights for Kuala Lumpur next week, but at the moment it looks likely they would skip the June 7 meeting if the AIFF does not meet them before June 7 though the final word is not out in that matter.
