Jamshedpur FC fly to the top of the ISL table with SC East Bengal victory!

After registering a victory in a thrilling contest of football against NorthEast United FC, the Men of Steel stepped back to the home pitch to take their first game of the second half of the season underway against SC East Bengal.

The game kicked-off at the GMC Athletic stadium in Bambolim with the Jamshedpur FC squad at it in the attacking front from minute one with high possession and pacy attacks down the middle and the left flank of the pitch, but SC East Bengal’s defence dealt with every chance that the Men of Steel came with and ensured that they did not concede in the opening minutes of the game. The Jamshedpur side knocked on the SC East Bengal’s doors with numerous opportunities and tactical plays towards the attacking end of the pitch but the Red and Gold Brigade’s centre-back, Adil Khan was compact in his defence to deny and intercept the chances created by the attacking line-up of the Men of Steel.

Despite multiple corner set-pieces and free-kicks being awarded which were close opportunities to score from, Jamshedpur FC were unsuccessful to convert the plays into goals, thus ending the first half of the game in a goalless draw with the home team being the dominant side on the pitch as well as in the match statistics.

The second half began with more energy than the first as both sides looked eager to break the deadlock and score the opening goal of the game to take the lead over the other. Out of the multiple chances that the Men of Steel came up with, one of the plays almost could have ended with the ball in the back of the net but instead, it deflected away after the ball rattled off the crossbar. A long cross into the box by Greg was flicked on by a header by an attacker which dropped to Jordan who created enough force and a superb connection to the ball with his head from a long distance to head it into the far corner of the post. Unfortunately, the ball struck the post while the SC East Bengal keeper remained still since the ball was beyond his reach, and the ball was cleared away to safety afterwards. The second half continued with Jamshedpur FC being more expressive with the ball all over the pitch as they scouted for chances to score from and get the lead over SC East Bengal, but they were unable to do so even though they dominated the match statistics throughout the duration of the game. A close attempt by Jordan Murray after a perfect touch on the chest and a volley to end the play, went inches away from the bottom right corner.

Just as the game entered its final five minutes, the Men of Steel pulled off another goal in the final minutes from a corner kick with Ishan Pandita doing what he does best. An accurate ball towards the near post by Greg Stewart was finished off perfectly into the back of the net by Ishan with a stunning header after he beat his marker which gave the Jamshedpur side the lead just minutes before the referee blew the full-time whistle.

With the slim lead, the Men of Steel walked out victorious with two consecutive wins to their name as they climbed up to the top spot in the league table after picking up the winning points.
