Jamshedpur FC go down fighting in AFC Champions League playoffs to Mumbai City FC!

Jamshedpur FC stepped up to the Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri, Kerala to play one of the most imperative games of the club’s history, the AFC Champions League playoffs. A one-off game against the current League Shield Winner’s, Mumbai City FC which would decide which side would earn themselves a shot in the AFC Champions League 2023-24 group stage. Mumbai City FC beat Jamshedpur FC with a full-time score of 3-1 as an exhilarating game between the two concludes with Mumbai City qualifying for the AFC Champions League 2023-24 group stage.

The game kicked off with tons of energy right from the get-go. In the 11th minute of the game, Jamshedpur FC came close to opening their scoring account. JET, from the midfield, unleashes a powerful strike on target which seems to be dipping into the goal but is tipped over the bar by the Mumbai City goalkeeper.

A close opportunity came for Mumbai City when a shot aimed at the bottom corner from Bipin Singh was palmed away by TP Rehenesh. The saved shot deflected off the post and bounced away to safety, keeping the scoreline intact.

The two sides kept their fast-paced attacks on at each other with the aim of taking the lead before the first half came to a close. But no goals were seen on either ends of the pitch in the first half of the game.

Mumbai City FC started off the second half strong with a couple of chances but were denied by strong saves by Jamshedpur’s guardian on the goal.

The current League Shield Winner’s, Mumbai City FC finally scored the opening goal that they were looking for from a penalty kick. A clip by Ricky Lallawmawma on Chhangte within the box led to official awarding the Islanders a penalty which was converted in from the spot by Ahmed Jahouh.

A few minutes after the opener, Mumbai City extended the lead as a loose ball within the Jamshedpur box is netted in with a confident finish by Alberto Noguera.

Just as the game entered its final 10 minutes, Jamshedpur FC’s skipper, Eli Sabia brought the Men of Steel back into the game. JET drove a curling ball from a corner kick which was nodded in by the captain to keep his side alive.

The Men of Steel fought back with all their might but were unable to score an equaliser while on the other hand Mumbai City found the back of the net in the final minutes. A chip over the TP Rehenesh by Vikram Pratap Singh at the end of a well-constructed play by Greg Stewart sealed the deal for the Islanders.

A tight encounter between the two ends in Mumbai City’s favour as they lock a spot in their second consecutive AFC Champions League Group Stage.
