Jamshedpur FC head coach Aidy Boothroyd happy with Mumbai City FC draw!

Jamshedpur FC travelled to Mumbai to play their first away game against Mumbai City FC and put forth a strong performance to register a draw. After sharing the points, Gaffer Aidy Boothroyd talks about the result of the team’s first away fixture, the squad’s game plan for the season ahead and more.

Was the long throw strategy that led to a goal something the team has worked upon in the training sessions?

We work on our set piece strategies as we have got good long throwers and free-kick specialists who can be an added weapon to our side. So, we do work on it all the time in the training ground. When you come away to tough opposition clubs like these and play against a team of such great quality then we have to keep it tight because there is always a chance to score from a set piece. I was pleased with tonight’s outcome considering it was a makeshift performance from the team and we ended up being our best.

Do you think it is a good result considering it was an away game against a strong team?

It is a really good result because the opposition are a good team with a good coach. We had a game plan for the game which was a success in the end because we managed to stop them from playing their game while getting ourselves some chances towards the end where we could possibly have had all the three points to us. But, now that we have got a point away from home and if we get three at home then that is going to put us in a strong position going forward. Considering how we lost our last game, I was very delighted to have seen this one out and got what we deserved.

Was seeing Greg drop back deeper into the midfield from the top end of the pitch considered as a defensive success for the team?

Mumbai City do have a lot of good players but we certainly made it frustrating for every single one of them out there tonight. I would like to give a great compliment to how my players defended while keeping an eye on Stewart at all times which quieted him down as the game progressed. We know how difficult he can be as a player to play against. Thankfully, it was not a fairytale ending for Stewart but a very professional performance from us.

Do you think the team is still a work in progress since the team is yet to win a match?

It has been only two games into the Hero ISL 2022-23 season for us. But, yes definitely we are still a work in progress. We want to play an aggressive style as well as pressing game in our fixtures. We want to be a threat on the counter-attacks while also being good on the ball while keeping plenty of possession. Since everything cannot be done at the same time it’ll take some time to settle in and it also depends on the decision making of the players after the work we do during the week. So our team is definitely a work in progress. But, it is a new dawn for Jamshedpur FC and we want to keep building on the top work that has already been done.
