Jamshedpur FC’s Scott Cooper happy after East Bengal FC draw!

Jamshedpur FC’s Scott Cooper faced the media after an intense encounter with East Bengal FC away in Kolkata which ended in a goalless stalemate.

On if it was a point gained or a point lost…

It’s a good question right now. When you play away from home, the first game of the season, you keep a clean sheet, you get a point. I don’t think you can grumble. That said, I think we had some big moments. Some really good shooting opportunities in the first half that we didn’t take. We went for an extra pass or a twist or a turn.

We missed those opportunities. I want to see if that was a penalty or not towards the end on Imran. I want to take a look at that. This is my point about VAR. If there are VARs here, we know for sure. And we can make the right decision and possibly get the right result.

On the performance overall…

Possession-wise, it’s 50-50 in terms of shots. Both teams, I think our goalkeeper only had two shots to save. I’m a greedy coach. I’d say there was a little bit of a penalty at the end. I’m a little disappointed not to take the three points because I think we had some big moments towards the end and on the counter-attack.

We look like a team that just needs a little bit more time, a little bit more development. It’s a team that will surely improve as we get going with some younger players. There are some new players to the league.

But generally, I think we have to be satisfied but not happy.

On the chances…

There were occasions where we could have taken a shot but played some extra passes. We have to help the new players and the youngsters be more brave and take that shot. Some players like Nongdomba for example, put himself in very good situations, really good situations to pull the trigger.

Sometimes the players really look for the perfect opening to shoot. A shot between players or through the legs could find its way into a goal. And they have to understand that sometimes if you have a chance to pull the trigger, pull the trigger. You know, it’s never going to be a perfectly wide-open path to the goal.

But as long as you can see a part of it, you know, because we don’t know what will happen in the match. So we spoke to him afterward a little bit.

There were other moments from set pieces as well where we looked dangerous.

On the set-piece routines…

I think in the set-piece area, we created many problems but it just didn’t land right for us. This was also a way to get to know each other more for the players. They’ll understand the runs, the movements, and that will become a little bit more fluid. And we have to be happy with the defensive display of defending the set-pieces as well.

On the defensive line…

There’s a lot being said about our defense, or our defenders. And it’s very easy to look at the prospects. You know, they don’t have this, they don’t have that.

But you saw Elsinho tonight. He’s good in the air. He’s composed on the ball. He’s perfect as the middle guy in the back three. You know, Pratik and Dinpuia complemented him. And so he showed experience, he showed composure. And actually, I’m a little disappointed because I know he’s a real big threat from set pieces. And he was there or thereabouts; he just didn’t find his way to find the back of the net. He was very good with the ball in the air, Elsinho. And so is Pratik, so is Dinpuia, so we can bring that to the table.

As for Sanan, you know, he’s got skill, he’s got flair, he’s got confidence. He’s going to be a very good player.

Jamshedpur FC next play Kerala Blasters away in Kochi on October 1. Catch the action LIVE on Sports 18, Sports 18 Khel and Jio Cinema.
