Japan’s Genki Haraguchi signs for VfB Stuttgart!

The 31-year-old Japanese midfielder Genki Haraguchi joins VfB Stuttgart from 1.FC Union Berlin with immediate effect.

After starting his career with the Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, Haraguchi enjoyed spells with Hertha BSC, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before joining Union Berlin.

Genki Haraguchi has also won 74 caps for the Japanese national team, scoring 11 goals. The midfielder will wear the number 17 shirt at VfB after putting pen to paper on a contract until June 30, 2024.

VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth said, “Genki Haraguchi brings outstanding footballing qualities and a wealth of experience to our team. He knows Germany and the Bundesliga from his time at previous clubs and therefore won’t need a long bedding-in period in his new surroundings. We’re very pleased he can improve the quality of our squad at very short notice and wish Genki a warm welcome to Stuttgart.”
