Keeper Andreas Luthe returns to VfL Bochum!

VfL Bochum have signed Andreas Luthe until the end of the 2023/24 season, the 36-year-old goalkeeper moves from Bundesliga 2 club 1.FC Kaiserslautern.

For Luthe, it is a return to his old place of work, after all, he was trained at VfL Bochum and went through all the teams for 15 years (2001 to 2016) from youth to professionals. After making his professional debut for VfL in the Bundesliga (2009), he made a further 168 competitive appearances for the Blue and Whites before moving to FC Augsburg. Luthe made 131 appearances for FC Augsburg, 1.FC Union Berlin and 1.FC Kaiserslautern (Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga, DFB Cup).

“We had to react to Michael Esser’s injury and were therefore looking for an experienced goalkeeper who, along with Manuel Riemann and Niclas Thiede, could reliably meet the requirements for our training and playing level,” said Marc Lettau, sporting director of VfL Bochum 1848.

Patrick Fabian has accompanied Andreas Luthe’s career for a long time. “We’ve known each other for a long time, we were trained together at VfL in the youth ranks and we’ve made it to the first team almost in lockstep. Andi knows what is required here at VfL, even knows some of his teammates and will help us with his personality to achieve our goal of staying in the league,” said the VfL sporting director.

“I couldn’t turn down the chance to help my hometown club again. I’m overjoyed to be back home,” said Andreas Luthe, who will wear the number 26 shirt at VfL. “I associate something special with this number, I was able to celebrate my professional debut at VfL with it.”
